Seconds to a few short minutes and 100s to 1000s of NEFs GEO tagged.Īlso PC apps like Geosetter and Daminion may be worth looking at/ evaluating. If you're out in the field and shoot with 2 bodies, with only 1 GPS unit, it's a real schlepp to tag all the files from the second camera (without GPS unit.) Big pain.Ģ or more cameras can use the one phone generated. IScan-Cumbria edited this topic 96 months ago.

I'd definitely recommend evaluating the phone/ software route before forking out bucks on a 'dumb' hot shoe/ resource hogger. This functionality is not available with a 'dumb' dedicated GPS unit. This I can and do use for (photography) planning purposes. I then have a fabulous record of my treks. My GPX tracks are uploaded, stored, to Bing. Bing maps has the Explorer series of maps tiled for those who have Silverlight installed.

I love Ordinance Survey (OS) maps here in the UK. If you click through on the above image, there's further info for you to evaluate.Īdditionally, generating GPX will enable the use of other apps and resources like say ViewRanger GPS - Trails & Maps. Does not drain phone battery.įorrest Tanaka uses Lightroom to tag photos from the GPX tracks. I purchased the app the guy used in the clip. Some time back I watched this Geotagging DSLR photos automatically excellent video. when on the camera strap clip-on holder, the remote release attached to the GPS unit, pulls off easily - I've lost one remote release cable this way, and lost and found (after a long search in the field) another - a distraction I don't want the unit normally sits in the hot shoe - out in the field, I need from time to time to slap on a Speedlight, it's a faff to take-off the GPS from the hot shoe, then slide it into its holder on the camera strap, then slap on the Speedlight it really does/ did drain the camera battery I've stopped using my Photix GPS now for over a year, because… I haven't run the Precision Design all day, but my old unit generally went through two batteries in a day of shooting.įor the point Richard McGuire: makes, I'd recommend not using a dedicated GPS unit on your camera, unless you absolutely know that the chosen unit does not drain the battery. I just got into the habit of carrying a spare battery or two and recharging in the car if necessary.

It runs on the battery of the camera, as did my old one, which will drain your battery somewhat.

On the plus side, it includes a cable release and has an on-off switch to save on the battery without needing to disconnect it when you plan to not shoot for a while. When it does have a reading, it is moderately accurate, but may be as much as 300 feet off the actual location. The Precision Design also tends to lose the satellites more easily when you move locations. It is slower to acquire satellites than an inexpensive unit (IceGPS) that I used on my previous D700 and D300, but which uses 10 pins and so is not compatible with the D750. I bought a Precision Design GP-1 which I'm not very satisfied with. I'm also interested in the answer to this. Whats a good geotagger that attaches to the camera?
